We are always looking for activated charcoal uses. But what about getting longer use out of that activated charcoal.
There is a simple and easy way to recharge your charcoal to reuse it or recycle it
Charcoal is carbon. Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms.
The use of special manufacturing techniques results in highly porous charcoals. These so-called active, or activated, charcoals are widely used to adsorb odorous or colored substances from gases or liquids.
Abosorb...is the key word.. When a something adsorbs, it attaches to it by chemical attraction. The large surface area of activated charcoal gives it a lot of bonding parts. When different kinds of chemicals pass next to the carbon surface, they attach to the surface and are trapped.
So this charcoal should be replaced every 2 months or so depending on your use and how often you use it.
You will need to take apart the filter...if you have other things in the filter along with the charcoal you will need to separate them (side note when setting up you filter keep this in mind so you make it easy to separate the charcoal.
Now allow the charcoal the air dry and finally place it in the oven on a medium heat (around 250) for an hour or so if on the move a pot or a campfire will do as long as you have the hear under control.
There you go clean fresh charcoal.
