Herb of the Week - Queen Anne's Lace

http://prepperherboftheweek.blogspot.com/2015/03/uses-for-queen-annes-lace.html

I am setting this up on a separate blog that will eventually
be an easy to use resource down the line.
So click the link below to see it uses and bookmark the blog for weekly installments.

I will be posting an herb of the week every Tuesday. I find it is easy to remember things like this when you get them in small doses.

Queen Anne's Lace can grow 4 feet tall. The leaves are 2 to 8 inches long and fern-like. We all know the flowers, which are tiny and white, blooming in lacy, flat-topped clusters. Each flower has a dark, purplish center.

Herbal Infection fighters

Ok I touched on the subject of how to make homemade penicillin in a previous post Click Here

But now lets address  other things you should have around for infections.

GARLIC!!! Love it and it is an amazing thing. Ear infection treatment.
Garlic is the most potent natural antibiotic. Eating at least one clove of raw garlic each day can prevent a multitude of infections. I work with alot of yale med students and they all smell of garlic because of this very reason. It KEEPS them healthy. Garlic has allicin which is similar to penicillin.
Garlic juice or oil has been used in traditional folk medicine to relieve pain associated with ear infections. Garlic was often mixed with other herbal oils like mullein and used as ear drops to help to treat middle ear infections. Can be used in children to.

Garlic Ear Oil Drops
2 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
Simmer garlic in olive oil over very low heat (or use double-boiler if your pan/stove won’t go very low, otherwise you will end up instead with deep-fried garlic!) for about 5 minutes. Strain and pour into a small glass bottle. Use with a dropper from an old medicine bottle or from the pharmacy. Place 2-3 drops in the infected ear 3 times/day.  You may also put a small cotton ball slightly inside the ear for those little squirmers to give the garlic more time to heal.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR- Another amazing thing!

Drinking apple cider has been reported to be a cures for allergies (pets, food and environmental). A folk remedy for acne, flu fatigue, acid reflux, sore throats, high cholesterol, arthritis and gout. A small drink of apple cider vinegar for a few weeks can get high blood pressure under control. And even helps with sinus infections.

For an adult, drink 1-2 tablespoons diluted in 4-6 ounces of water or juice (must be diluted or it can burn) 3 times a day. For children, prepare 1 tablespoon in 6 ounces of juice 3 times a day.

Urinary tract and bladder infection can be treated with a simple 3 cups of pure apple cider vinegar to a bath and soak for twenty minutes. Do this right when you notice an issue. Repeat the next day if needed.

A gargle formulated from a 40/60 solution of apple cider vinegar and water is a centuries-old folk remedy for oral thrush. For younger children, a cotton swab saturated in the solution is used to apply it to the tongue and inner cheeks.

RED CLOVER it grows everywhere so stop cutting it down!  Start gathering up the flowers and drying them and plant them in your garden or even in a field in your area,

Red clover is a potent herb in the treatment of sinus infections. Red clover effectively treats bacterial infections, respiratory tract inflammation , bronchitis and hopping cough. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine states that red clover has historically been used to treat cancer and various respiratory tract ailments. The plants' flower heads are used to make herbal supplements. It also helps with tooth aches which I address in one of my first posts Click Here

Just take a cup of dried cover flower and boil it in a tea strainer or strain the tea when done boiling

  • You can also make extract 3 cups of dry clover , 2 cups vodka.
  • Grind the flower up place in a jar
  • Pour the vodka in (you can also use apple cider vinegar or other proof alcohol)
  • Shake and store in a warm place.
  • After 3-4 weeks (making sure to shake it regularly)
  • Strain the liquid into a bowl and squeeze the flowers to get all the concentrate out to!
Pour in bottle and use a few drops in teas

OREGANO OIL–THE STREP-THROAT ANTIBIOTIC
Oregano Oil is a proven natural antibiotic. Oregano contains elenoic acid, a powerful antibiotic and antiviral compound. .
It is commonly used for strep throat and has been shown to even help overcome superbugs caused by antibiotic resistance. Place 2 drops in 6 ounces of water and gargle 3 times/day. It is also commonly used to treat sinusitis.

Just use the tea method like above or make some extract same way as the clover.

A few other infection fighters!

-Raw honey as a dress on small wounds, helps in the healing of an infection by drawing it out
-Soaking wounds in sea water or epsion salt will help clean and kill infections.
-Herbs that cleanse the blood and support healing when taken internally are burdock root, dandelion, cayenne pepper, and yellow dock. Get plenty of rest. Elevate the wound higher than the heart to increase circulation and reduce pain and swelling.

this is a great printable PDF on some herbs and their medical uses Click Here
I actually bought one for my go bag. Go to the book store for this one. I think it will be one of your most important purchases. Getting to look through them and make sure it is easy to read and has enough info is important.
